Our Mission

When asked by those who opposed him what the greatest commandment in the Law is, Jesus answers:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Mat. 22:37-40 NRSV)

It is this Great Commandment that defines Jesus’ mission and provides the guidance to his disciples to continue in his work in his instructions to them known as The Great Commission:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” (Mat 28:19-20 NRSV)

At Resurrection Episcopal Church, we are dedicated to proclaiming the good news of God’s love and acceptance of all people and teaching them to follow in his ways. We are a community that welcomes and nurtures those who are seeking God and want to discover God’s plan for their lives. We invite you to come and see that for yourself.

We are part of the Jesus Movement:
Resurrection Episcopal Church is a part of the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement, seeking every day to love God with our whole heart, mind and soul, and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mat. 22:36-40). The Jesus Movement is following Jesus into loving, liberating and life-giving relationship with God, with each other and with the earth. We join the movement by following Jesus and mapping a strategy that inspires and equips all of us to join God and make a difference for good in the lives of people.

Hear what the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church has to say about this.

We make promises to love and serve:
It is the mission of the Church, to bear witness to Christ in the world and bring people and God together, which forms the basis of the promises we make in our Baptismal Covenant. The Baptismal Covenant contains five promises that we Episcopalians make to accomplish the Church’s mission. They are:

1. Become a follower of Jesus by gathering with other Christians to share our lives, to offer ourselves to God through worship, and to learn God’s purpose for us through study and prayer.
2. Return to God when we sin and turn away from Him.
3. Spread the Good News of Christ by telling others and living Christian lives.
4. Love and help our neighbor.
5. Work for justice and peace that restores value and respect to all people.
